A Day in the Life

Things I am thankful for today:
  1. Pasta Salad on sale at the local grocery store
  2. Finding new Sam/Dean gifs on Tumblr
  3. The lovely stray cats I feed not leaving me any sacrificial “gifts” of dead roaches, lizards, or birds on my front steps.
Things I need to bitch about today:
  1. Ineffectual air-conditioning units in 115 degree weather.
  2. People who ask me for my last piece of gum and then act like it’s not the excruciating test of self sacrifice that it actually is.
  3. The idea that flicking your turn signal on 1.5 seconds before you make an abrupt halting turn is acceptable (To the guy in the blue Toyota - IT IS NOT!)

Protector Saga Book 5 Peek

For all of those patiently, patiently waiting for the 5th book in the Protectors Saga, I am so sorry. I know it's been forever. Unfortunately life and the real job that actually pays my bills have gotten in the way. But I promise, I keep plugging along at it and as a little treat (and to show that it WILL eventually come out) I give to you the very first page of The Protectors Saga Book 5 -

Chapter 1
The smell of burnt flesh and blood filled the air around Avery, seeping into her nostrils. She kept her eyes shut tight against the piercing flood of bright light emanating from the open Gateway. A cackling laughter echoed throughout the clearing, travelling across Avery's skin like painful ice. She didn't need to open her eyes to know exactly who the laughter was coming from.
They had failed. The Protectors had failed. Avery had failed. Simone had won. She had killed over half of The Five, used their blood to open the Gateway to the Underworld, and now Malvenia, Draven's Demon mother, Queen of the Underworld, was standing in front of her, laughing over her escape from the Underworld and entrance into Avery's.
Through her closed eyelids Avery could tell that the blinding red glow from the Gateway had died down, and yet she was still unable to open her eyes. At first she couldn't understand why, but the uncontrollable shaking of her body let her know that it was due to fear. If she opened her eyes everything would be real and the most dangerous villain the Protectors had yet to meet would be standing in front of her.
Next to her, Avery could feel Draven begin to stir. Slowly she moved out her hand towards him and took hold of his hand, ignoring how rough his charred flesh felt on her skin. She squeezed his hand, gentle enough not to peel off any of his damaged skin, but hard enough to help speed up his rising.
"Avery." Draven moaned, his voice gravelly and his face still turned towards the ground.
Rocking on his arm lightly with her other hand, Avery breathed out in a panicked voice, "Draven."

A Little Writer's 'Poem'

Sitting down in front of a computer screen for over 10 hours a day
Only breaking to shower, feed the dogs, walk the dogs, and yoga the stiffness out of my back
Living off of a diet consisting of Diet Coke, Hot Tamales and Baked Ruffles
Thank God my writer's block is over!

Zombie Month - Let's Be Fashionable!

Okay, I missed a day. Damn! Still in the beginning of the month, too. Ah well, I'm not letting it deter me. I shall continue on. And today I'm continuing on with zombie fashion, because even though you may be undead doesn't mean you can't look presentable.
Seriously though, I would love to see some gal or guy strolling down the street, or in a mall, perhaps dining at an Olive Garden, dressed like some zombie fashionista. My cell phone would be whipped out and I'd be by their side begging for a photo op before they could utter, "Braaaaains!"
So if you dig it and wanna be the living dead with style, here are some ideas.

1) Let's face it, it's all about the shoes. And if you're already undead you don't have to worry about sensible running shoes. Go for broke! And broke just might be what your ankle will end up rambling around in these babies.
You can find these bloody beauties here - Gory Good Foot Fetish They also have some zombie flesh flats available for those of us worried about possibly breaking an ankle...undead or not.

2) Nails. First impressions are ever so important. And we all know that the state of our nails is going to be a tipping point in a lot of people think about us...sad but true, especially for us nail biters. Make sure your zombie nails have just enough blood spatter on them to let the fleshies know you are not a corpse to be messed with.

3) Hair. Whether you decide to tease and hairspray it into a delightfully zombie-esque tangled mess, or just pull it back to show off your jutting collar bone...do it with style.
Find this gory little beauty here - Zombie Tresses

4) One hugely important thing to remember is always look like you've just stepped off the catwalk. I don't care if you're a size 2 or 22. As the all powerful Queen of Smizing Tyra would say, be fierce!

5) Last but not least - accessories. Where would any of us be without out them. Walking around sad and boring just longing for a pair of dangle earrings...maybe a beret.
Because nothing says best buddies quite like sharing a brain
Eat your heart and brains out for this ring here - Feed Me!

There you have it. Some truly awesome zombie fashion. Now go. Zombie out. And hopefully one day I can see you sitting a few tables away from me at an Olive Garden and be lucky enough to grab a photo.

Zombie Month - Tattoo Time

So, I know today I said I was going to be reviewing Gena Showalter's book Alice in Zombieland, but that has now gotten pushed back...I blame a writing kick I got started on. Good for the next Protectors book, bad for book reviews. In consequence, today is now Zombie Tattoo Day!
I love tattoos. I think they're a great and often beautiful way to express yourself. Myself and my body, I more go for the inspirational quote, a song lyric scrolled across a shoulder blade, a big eyed owl perched on the foot. I just don't have it in me to get a living corpse permanently tattooed to my body, but that doesn't mean I don't think it's awesome to see it tattooed on somebody else's body. I ogle and point and tell them, "Your tattoo is ridiculous...in the best possible way, of course."
Here's my list for best zombie tats.

1) Famous Folks Zombie Tats (because what better way to tell the world you admire someone then to get their rotting face permanently drawn on your body).

 2) Zombie sleeves - for the truly dedicated.

3) Unique Zombie Tats. If you want a zombie tattoo, but don't feel like going the truly traditional living dead way...do something different, cuz I guarantee it's gonna turn out AWESOME!

4) Zombie bite tats. Wanna look like a walking talking zombie victim - or zombie in the making - this is the way to do it. But remember, they are PERMANENT so unless your okay looking like you just got finished walking through Raccoon City for the rest of your life - I'd seriously consider just leaving the bite wounds to Halloween makeup and temporary tats.

 5) Cute Zombie Tattoos (my personal favorite). If you can take something like decaying flesh and make it borderline adorable, then you my friend, deserve all the awards.

Becoming Eden - To Sequel Or Not To Sequel

Zombie interuptus. Yes, it is Zombie Month, but I'm still gonna be posting stuff about my books and writing stuff. This post is about Becoming Eden. Some people have been asking if Becoming Eden is going to have a sequel, and the very simple answer is...I'm not sure. I would really love it if Eden's story were to continue and I have some really great ideas for upcoming stories, but it all depends on two things - 1) How well the book does and 2) If I can fit it in. I'm still working on the 5th book in the Protectors Saga. It's taking a lot longer then I wanted it to or expected (damn you writer's block)! Plus, I still have a lot of other stories begging to be placed onto the page. So, it may end up being more than one book and it may not. I suppose, in the end, it will be up to you the readers :)

Zombie Month - CDC Zombie Apocalypse Preparedness

Zombie Month continues!
Today, I'm going to be sharing Zombie Preparedness site of the CDC. Yes, the actual Center for Disease Control has an actual site dedicated to preparedness for a zombie apocalypse. It, of course, started as a fun tongue in cheek campaign to gain more of an audience, but they claim it's been an effective platform of preparing people for all kinds of disasters like earthquakes, hurricanes, etc. And I think that's great. Helping people prepare for the worst is wonderful, but lets face it, the coolest thing about this whole campaign is the fact that the CDC has a Zombie Apocalypse plan on their website. Well done, CDC, well done.
Go check out the site. They have a zombie novella you can download that helps you prepare for when the world gets taken over by flesh eating corpses. They also have zombie buttons and badges you can post to all your different social media platforms. All in all, it's something every zombie lover should check out. The link is posted below.
Tomorrow I'll be reviewing Alice in Zombieland by Gena Showalter. Zombie Month shall continue on! And don't forget to go and enter into the giveaway for the Daryl Dixon jewelery!
